Hiraeth는 상상이든 현실이든 과거의 장소, 사람 또는 순간에 대한 깊은 갈망을 나타내는 부(富) 단어입니다.

Hiraeth(2022)는 이갑재, 김해숙, 여상희, 박효정, 이덕영, 수네혼 작가들의 그룹전이다. 이 작품은 우리가 “히라에쓰”의 신랄한 느낌을 경험하는 다양한 방법을 탐구합니다. 사람과 장소에 대한 그리움은 사라진 지 오래다. 지금은 필멸의 기억 속에만 존재하는 과거의 순간이나 시간에 대한 그리움, 흐려지는 사진 또는 신뢰할 수 없는 내레이션. 돌이킬 수 없는 아픔과 시간은 누구에게도 기다려지지 않는다는 사실, 우리의 노력의 결실은 시간이 지나면 잊혀지고 변화는 필연적이며 할 일은 끝났다는 사실을 마지못해 받아들인다.

히래쓰(hiraeth)라는 단어는 한국어나 영어로 직역이 되지 않고, 재력과 관련이 있지만 지리적 경계, 언어, 문화를 초월한 느낌이다. 어느 시점에서 우리는 모두 공감할 수 있습니다.

Hiraeth: a longing for places, spaces, and moments of the past

Hiraeth is a Wealth word describing the deep longing for places, people, or moments from the past – imagined or real.

Hiraeth (2022) is a group exhibition with work from artists Lee Kab Jae, Kim Haesook, Yeo Sang Hee, Park Hyo Jung, Lee Deokyoung, and Suné Horn. The work explores the various ways in which we experience the poignant feeling of “hiraeth”. The longing for people and places long gone. The yearning for moments or times past that now only exist in mortal memories, fading photos, or unreliable narrations. The pain of not being able to go back and the reluctant acceptance of the fact that time doesn’t wait for anyone, the fruits of our labour will, in time, be forgotten, change is inevitable, and what’s done is done.

Though the word “hiraeth” does not have a direct translation into Korean or English and has a connection to Wealth history, it is a feeling that transcends geographic boundaries, language, or culture. At some point in time, we can all relate.
