Artist’s Statement
이번 전시주제인 ‘커렌시아’는 자신만의 쉼터 혹은 재충전할 수 있는 공간입니다. 이런 ‘커렌시아’를 저는 ‘응축’으로 표현하고 싶습니다. 휴식과 쉼을 통한 재충전의 공간을 각각의 작은 버블 안에 가둬두고, 구의 형태를 빌어 품을 수 있는 쉼의 공간, 혹은 압축 되어진 작지만 강한 이미지를 표현하고 싶었습니다. 이로 인해 에너지의 폭발 혹은 분출하기 직전, 응축상태를 저의 언어로 풀어보았습니다.
현재 코로나19로 인하여 우리들은 각자의 힘든 상황 안에 갇혀 있습니다. 지금의 이러한 시간과 공간의 제약을 미래의 더 발전된 도약을 위한 ‘커렌시아’라 생각하고, 우리가 가진 작지만 강한 힘을 준비하고 비축해둔다면, 더 밝은 내일이 기다리고 있지 않을까요?
The theme of this exhibition, ‘querencia’, is a place where you can rest or recharge yourself. I would like to express this kind of ‘querencia’ as ‘condensation’. I wanted to express a space of rest that can be embraced by borrowing the shape of a sphere, or a compact but strong image by enclosing a space of rest and recharging through each small bubble. Because of this, just before the explosion or eruption of energy, I solved the condensed state in my own language.
Currently, due to COVID-19, we are stuck in our own difficult circumstances. If we think of these limitations of time and space now as ‘querencia’ for a more advanced leap in the future, and prepare and stock up on our small but strong power, wouldn’t a brighter tomorrow await?
